Expert: Chinese tourists could boost local hotel business
From the San Diego Daily Transcript (March 14, 2014):
At a time when the hotel market seems to be improving, visits by mainland Chinese nationals could represent as many as 700,000 room nights in San Diego County this year.
That was according to hotel developer and consultant Robert Rauch during a Friday meeting in the Del Mar Heights area.
Rauch said based on this assumption, Chinese visitors would represent 5 percent of the average hotel occupancy, which he pegged at about 72 percent here currently.
Chinese families already are having a significant effect on the economy: Rauch said that once they get here, they each typically spend about ,000.
