Kick Some Wellness into High Gear This Summer
A common struggle travelers face is continuing healthy habits while on the road. These gaps can harm overall results and deter individuals from achieving their health and wellness goals. Consistency is key, so we have implemented a few practical wellness programs to help guests stay on track!
Wellness Programs That Can be Put to Work Immediately
We recently offered wellness workshops featuring a chiropractor, fitness coach, and nutritionist. The sessions were on Saturday mornings, and all hotel guests and neighbors in the community were invited at no charge. The talented speakers sought to expand their markets, but there was no selling at the event. We served healthy snacks and discounts for the programs that our speakers offered. They were very well received!
One session featured “Working with women” to help them restore their metabolism to optimal levels and “Training on mindfulness, life stressors, and hormonal changes throughout the month.” Another session talked about minimizing fat gain and maximizing fat loss.
One session was “Working with men” to help them enhance muscular growth and strength through optimal training techniques. It included advanced training methods featuring “guiding men with what and how much to eat to achieve the physique they are looking for.” Our guests loved these.
“One of the biggest barriers to maintaining healthy habits while traveling is a lack of education. When guests are away from their routines and the comfort of home, it’s easy to feel off-balance or fatigued. Offering complimentary, on-site educational workshops led by trusted wellness professionals allows travelers to stay engaged, make healthier choices, and feel their best,” according to Jonny Strauss, Wellness Consultant.
Food and Beverage
Our restaurants provide nutritious meals, including plant-based and locally sourced ingredients, to support guests’ well-being. Our menus include many gluten-free items and vegetarian and vegan options. One of the speakers at our sessions focused on healthy eating. She prioritized whole foods, fresh fruits, and vegetables as the foundation, and suggested opting for whole grains like quinoa, brown rice, and whole wheat, with lean proteins.
The session discussed ensuring a mix of protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates in each meal and avoiding excessive refined sugars and processed foods. Incorporating seasonal and local Ingredients was a hit with the many sustainability-oriented attendees.
Strauss added, “Maintaining a healthy diet while traveling is a common challenge. By offering nutrient-dense, high-protein meals and convenient grab-and-go options like protein shakes, hotels not only support guest wellness goals but also unlock new revenue opportunities.”
Fitness Programming with a Touch of Mindfulness
On the fitness side, we have organized 10K, 5K, and Fun Runs in the community and a “run with the general manager.” We also offer personalized workout plans to encourage movement and mindfulness. We raised over $3,000 per year for the local Children’s Hospital.
Our latest idea is to add a yoga studio to our hotels by converting non-performing spaces and introducing guided meditation sessions like Yoga Nidra or breathwork classes. We’re thinking of partnering with a local, high-quality studio and offering sound healing experiences with Tibetan or crystal bowls. We will also add mindfulness workshops on stress management, gratitude, and self-awareness.
Our plan will add the promotion Digital Detox by encouraging guests to disconnect from technology during sessions. We will provide books on mindfulness and meditation for reading. The sky is the limit in this new field of wellness! Many of these program ideas were first outlined in our 2024 Hotel Wellness article and we’re proud to report they’re already delivering results. From improved guest satisfaction to deeper community engagement, the impact is real. As hoteliers, we are responsible for evolving with traveler expectations and providing experiences beyond the room. If you’re ready to bring high-impact wellness programs to your property, improve your guest retention, and create lasting value for guests, let’s talk!
